But we’re just getting started. Our ability to stay on the forefront of consumer trends has fueled our success since our founding in 1945 and will guide us in creating the next generation of products and experiences Worth Reaching For.
Position Summary We are looking for a Manager, Data Governance to lead our data governance team and help shape how governance evolves as the business adopts AI. The manager will lead a team of governance analysts and run the core governance program, including data product governance, metadata management, PII governance, data classification, and the data catalog. This role will also own standards that give data its business context so that both people and AI-powered solutions can understand and trust it.
As the organization advances its AI-ready data capabilities, the role is expected to expand governance practices for context, semantic models, ontologies, and other structures that support consistent interpretation and responsible reuse of data. This is not a traditional, policy-focused governance role; it requires technical aptitude, strong change management skills, and the curiosity to explore new approaches and put them into practice. Responsibilities · Lead and develop a team of governance analysts, including setting priorities, coaching, and building the team’s technical skills.
· Run governance operations day to day. Own the team’s Jira workflow and backlog so intake, prioritization, and delivery are visible and status reporting is consistent. · Own the direction of our data catalog platform (Atlan), including configuration decisions, metadata quality, and adoption across the business. · Own data product governance, including metadata standards, publication requirements, and ownership roles such as product owners, stewards, and custodians.
· Lead the implementation and ongoing operation of PII governance and data classification standards, partnering with security and privacy on policy, controls, and access decisions. · Establish and evolve standards for data context, including business definitions, required metadata, glossary content, certification criteria, semantic models, and ontologies. Define governance expectations, ownership, and lifecycle controls, and partner with analytics engineering, architecture, and AI teams on implementation and validation.
· Drive adoption of governance standards across domain teams through practical processes, templates, training, and hands-on support. · Explore and test new ways to scale governance, such as automation and AI-assisted metadata and classification, and put into practice what works. Minimum Qualifications 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, analytics, BI, or a related data discipline, with demonstrated experience leading people, programs, or cross-functional initiatives.
Hands-on SQL skills and comfort working directly with data to investigate issues and validate metadata and classification. Working knowledge of governance fundamentals such as metadata, classification, stewardship, data privacy, and data ownership, with the ability to deepen that knowledge quickly. Proven change management experience, including driving adoption of new processes or tools across teams that don’t report to you. Strong technical aptitude, demonstrated by the ability to learn new platforms quickly and understand how they work, not only what they do.
Experience coaching team members and managing competing priorities. Clear communication with technical, business, and leadership audiences. Experience with modern data and governance tools is preferred. Examples include: Atlan, Snowflake, Microsoft Purview, Cyera, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Jira, SQL, and comparable catalog, data platform, and work management tools. Physical Requirements / Work Environment · Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time and work on a computer for extended periods. · May require light lifting.
