About the role

Zurich North America is hiring a Corporate Counsel or Sr. Corporate Counsel – Corp Governance to join our Legal team! We are open to hiring talent in our Schaumburg, IL Corporate Headquarters.

In this role you will be responsible to:

Identify, manage and mitigate legal, regulatory and corporate governance risks, to enable the business to achieve its strategic and commercial goals in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and to protect and preserve Zurich’s tangible and intangible assets.

The role holder provides in-house legal, regulatory and governance advice on Governance, , Communications, Investor Relations, IT, Data Protection, Group Operations, Mergers & Acquisitions, Finance, and Regulatory Affairs.

Key Accountabilities:

Corporate Legal – Regulatory, Governance and Company Secretariat

Ensure legal advice accurately reflects applicable laws and regulations.

Promote the practice of the organizational values, ethical and responsible business conduct.

Provide a full range of legal advice and services on corporate legal issues relevant to objectives set by the Corporate Legal Team Lead/General Counsel which may include concerning Governance, t, Communications, Investor Relation, Regulatory Affairs, Finance and Capital Market transactions, Sourcing, IT, Data Protection.

Proactively detect and resolve material legal and regulatory issues.

Report on and escalate material legal and regulatory risks and issues.

Address potential conflicts between management and legal entity view by either aligning the two views or by actively identifying and managing the divergences.

Business Travel, as required

Extended Hours during Peak Periods, as required

Regular Predictable Attendance

Visibility in the Office, as required

This role will be filled at either the Corporate Counsel or Sr. Corporate Counsel Level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

Basic Qualifications:

For Corporate Counsel:

Juris Doctor and 4 or more years of experience in the Legal area

AND

Member of the Bar

OR

For Sr. Corporate Counsel:

Juris Doctor and 6 or more years of experience in the Legal area

AND

Member of the Bar

Knowledge of NILS, Lexis or Westlaw

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of NILS, Lexis or Westlaw

Insurance Industry experience

Strong organizational and analytical skills

Excellent communication skills

Your pay at Zurich is based on your role, location, skills, and experience. We follow local laws to ensure fair compensation. You may also be eligible for bonuses and merit increases. If your expectations are above the listed range, we still encourage you to apply—your unique background matters to us. The pay range shown is a national average and may vary by location. The combined salary range for this position is $87,200.00 - $188,700.00. The proposed salary range for the Corporate Counsel is $87,200.00 - $142,700.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.

The proposed salary range for the Sr. Corporate Counsel is $115,200.00 - $188,700.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%.

Minimum requirements

  • Juris Doctor, member of the Bar, and 4+ years legal experience for Corporate Counsel; 6+ years for Sr. Corporate Counsel
  • Knowledge of NILS, Lexis, or Westlaw (required for Sr. Corporate Counsel, preferred for Corporate Counsel)
  • Ability to provide legal, regulatory, and governance advice across multiple corporate functions
