Position Overview: The Director, Grant Management is responsible for coordinating federal grants, with particular responsibility for SAMHSA awards supporting the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
The Director oversees pre-award planning, organization, budget preparation, post-award administration, reporting, procurement, and closeout; ensures grants comply with funding-agency requirements, organizational policies, 2 CFR Part 200 (Uniform Guidance), 2 CFR Part 300, and other applicable federal regulations; and aligns grant operations across Finance, Program, Operations, and executive leadership. The role supervises the Grants Manager and strengthens the systems, controls, and processes that support audit readiness and continuity of 988 services.
Duties/Responsibilities: Oversee all aspects of 988 federal grant management, including responses to funder requests, reporting, and tracking of grant deliverables. Lead coordination of pre-award planning, organization, and budget preparation, and the post-award administration and closeout of grants. Manage the grants team to ensure compliance with SAMHSA requirements, 2 CFR Part 200, 2 CFR Part 300, other applicable regulations, organizational policies, award terms, and reporting requirements.
Oversee day-to-day business operations associated with 988 fiscal and grant activities, ensuring effective coordination across Finance, Operations, Program, and Grants Management teams to support operational efficiency, compliance, and continuity of services. Oversee the review, approval, and processing of invoices related to 988 federal grants, contracts, and vendor payments, ensuring accuracy, completeness, timely submission, appropriate supporting documentation, and compliance with SAMHSA requirements, Uniform Guidance, and organizational financial policies.
Provide oversight of procurement and contract activities tied to federal grant funding, ensuring proper documentation and alignment with both federal and organizational policies. Oversee the preparation, coordination, and timely submission of required federal reports, including performance, progress, and financial reports, to SAMHSA. Partner with Finance, Operations, Program, and Grants Management teams to align grant strategy, manage budgets, and ensure compliance across departments.
Review and approve financial reconciliations and reclassification requests related to 988 grants and operational expenditures, ensuring accuracy, appropriate allocation of costs, compliance with federal grant requirements, and alignment with organizational financial policies and reporting standards Maintain audit readiness by strengthening systems, controls, records, and supporting documentation and addressing compliance risks and corrective actions promptly.
Serve as the primary liaison to SAMHSA’s Grants Management Specialist and the 988 Government Project Officer, as directed by the AVP, 988 Strategy and Grants Management. Meet weekly with the AVP, 988 Strategy and Grants Management, to provide updates, highlight strengths and progress, and identify critical gaps or risks. Translate high-level Lifeline/988 policy goals, award requirements, and strategic priorities into clear, actionable initiatives for direct reports.
Partner with direct reports on performance management, regular developmental reviews, training, coaching, and clear accountability. Create mentorship and apprenticeship opportunities that support teammates in developing as leaders within Lifeline/988. Engage in professional development activities, including leadership and DEIB training.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree Master’s degree in healthcare, public health, policy, or a social science field, such as an MPH, MPA, MSW, or another health-related degree, preferred. 7+ years of progressively responsible professional experience managing federal grants, including substantial post-award compliance responsibility. Demonstrated leadership experience in a relevant field, including strategic planning, outreach and engagement, staff development, and cross-functional work.
Experience managing relationships with federal funders and overseeing budgeting, reporting, procurement, and post-award compliance for federally funded programs. Physical Requirements: Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Will constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. Will frequently communicate over video calls with internal and external stakeholders to provide status updates and potential roadblocks.
