What is this role about?

McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for an Instructional Designer, Dual Literacy (ELA/SLA) for our K-12 division literacy programs.

This is a remote position but can also be based in one of our McGraw Hill offices, open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This is a Project Status Worker (PSW) role with an end date of 08/31/2027.

You will be a valuable member of a collaborative group of Instructional Designers, closely partnering with teams focused on content, product management, UX, and creative media. As part of this team, you will create robust digital tools, curriculum and learning solutions in a variety of formats that are used by millions of educators and students every day. You are a digital savvy content and curriculum expert, responsible and accountable for assembling high-quality content based on specific product requirements for the Dual Literacy programs.

What you will be doing:

Contribute to concept meetings, review manuscripts, create storyboards, and contribute during alpha and beta builds for digital assets.

Heavy contributions to the product build process, including QC on both English and Spanish language digital assets. Meet all intermediate and final schedules.

Contribute to the development of build documentation, guidelines and review vendor work to ensure it adheres to guidelines; identify workflow efficiencies, serving under the leadership of senior members of the team.

Work on digital product tasks such as metadata tagging, concept mapping, script go-bys, and digital editing.

Provide informal training to associate instructional designers.

Apply accessibility expertise, contributing meaningfully to this area throughout the product development process.

Contribute in cross-functional discussions, program planning, and curriculum mapping within an Agile framework to ensure that product requirements, project schedules, and product goals are met and completed on time.

Support digital launches with vendors and freelancers by creating templates, writing guidelines, answering questions, completing trackers, and reviewing work to ensure it adheres to guidelines.

Contribute to the creation of POCs and initial prototypes, demonstrating applied knowledge and supporting iterative development.

Participate in user testing by taking notes, observing, and providing background information, serving under the leadership of management and senior members of the team.

Collaborate with cross-functional team members to troubleshoot technical issues and enhancements in authoring tools and the platform; suggest digital solutions and ideas about potential causes.

We’re looking for someone with:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or related field required.

Experience working with Spanish-language materials; prior experience as a Spanish, ESL, SLA, or dual-language teacher is a plus. A successful candidate may have previous K-5 teaching experience.

1–3 years’ experience working in digital content development that includes teaching and learning materials.

Experience working on multiple projects within tight deliverables and budgets.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity.

Experience with authoring tools, learning management systems, and content management systems, including some ability to create and visualize interactive digital content.

Solution-oriented mindset with a focus on practical, effective problem-solving.

Curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI, and their application to instructional design and content development.

The pay range for this position is between $52,000 - $65,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Click here to learn more about our benefit offerings.
