About the role
Leidos is seeking a Director, Compliance, Global Trade to further mature and strengthen its enterprise Global Trade compliance program. The Director, Compliance, Global Trade will play a critical role in overseeing and strengthening Leidos’ enterprise Global Trade compliance program. You will lead key elements of the Global Trade compliance framework, including policies and procedures, compliance and risk assessments, records management, data integrity, technology and tools, training, and reviews of new or changing information technology systems.
As a core pillar of Leidos’ Global Trade organization, you will help ensure the company’s Global Trade program is appropriately designed, documented, tested, and continuously improved to address evolving regulatory requirements and business needs. Reporting to the Vice President & Senior Assistant General Counsel, Global Trade, the Director will lead the Compliance team and partner closely with Global Trade leadership, business stakeholders, Legal, Compliance, Information Technology, Internal Audit, and other functions across the enterprise.
The successful candidate will have deep subject-matter expertise across export controls, sanctions, and customs, and will have an entrepreneurial, pragmatic, and professional approach to global trade compliance, as well as the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the business and a team mentality. This is a remote position, with proximity to Reston, VA preferred.
Key Responsibilities: Own and oversee the Global Trade policy and procedure framework, including the development, maintenance, dissemination, periodic review, and governance of policies, procedures, work instructions, guidance, and related compliance documentation Lead a risk-based Global Trade self-assessment and monitoring program to evaluate compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and internal controls Translate assessment findings, data, regulatory developments, incidents, and other risk indicators into practical corrective actions and improvements to Global
Trade processes, controls, tools, and training Oversee Global Trade records management requirements and practices, including establishing appropriate standards and controls for the creation, maintenance, retention, accessibility, and disposition of Global Trade records Establish and maintain standards for Global Trade data quality and integrity, including identifying data gaps, inconsistencies, and control weaknesses and working with stakeholders to remediate them Serve as the enterprise owner of Leidos’ Global Trade technology and tools portfolio, including systems supporting restricted
party screening, authorization management, international shipping, and other Global Trade processes Partner with Global Trade stakeholders, Information Technology, cybersecurity, data governance, and other functions to identify opportunities for automation, system enhancements, integration, and process improvement Oversee the Global Trade training and awareness program, including enterprise training, role-based training, targeted communications, microlearning, and other initiatives designed to promote understanding of Global Trade requirements Establish and maintain metrics, dashboards, key
risk indicators, and other reporting mechanisms to evaluate Global Trade program performance, compliance, risk, and effectiveness Coordinate with Global Trade leadership on implementation of corrective actions arising from self-assessments, audits, investigations, potential compliance matters, regulatory developments, and identified control gaps, including validation of remediation effectiveness Serve as a trade compliance partner on mergers, acquisitions, and divestures supporting pre-closing due diligence and leading post-closing integration or offboarding activities Own preparation and
submission of Global Trade regulatory filings, to include annual DDTC registration, anti-boycott reporting, EAR license exemption filings, and other periodic and event-driven filings across export control, sanctions, and customs regimes.
Monitor developments in global trade laws, regulations, enforcement, and compliance best practices and evaluate whether changes to Leidos’ policies, processes, controls, training, or systems are appropriate Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and cross-functional partners to support effective compliance while enabling efficient business operations.
Drive continuous improvement of the Global Trade compliance program using risk analysis, data, technology, lessons learned, and industry leading practices Manage and develop assigned Global Trade personnel, fostering accountability, professional growth, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Ability to travel between Reston, VA, Arlington, VA, and Washington, DC Other duties as assigned Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 12+ years of prior relevant experience or Advanced Degree with 10+ years prior relevant experience Ability to serve as an Empowered Official Extensive knowledge of export control, sanctions, and customs laws and regulations Strong project and program management skills, including the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives and competing priorities Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, maintaining, or assessing corporate compliance
programs, policies, procedures, internal controls, or monitoring programs Experience conducting or overseeing compliance assessments, risk assessments, monitoring, and/or similar reviews Proven ability to identify compliance and operational risks and translate findings into practical, scalable corrective actions and program improvements Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to use data, metrics, and trends to evaluate program effectiveness and support decision-making Ability to evaluate business processes and technology solutions from a compliance and controls perspective
Experience working with technology, systems, or automation supporting compliance or business processes Self-motivated and results-oriented, with the ability to prioritize and make independent decisions Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex compliance concepts clearly and collaborate across functions and all levels of the organization Demonstrated leadership experience, including experience in developing and mentoring professionals Must be a U.S.
person as defined in ITAR §120.62 Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance Preferred Qualifications: 8+ years of senior management experience Proximity to Reston, Virginia Experience in U.S.
federal government contracting, aerospace/defense, or high-technology sectors involving controlled technologies or classified programs Experience in evaluation, selection, implementation, and management of compliance systems and workflow automation, data analytics, dashboards, or technology-enabled controls Experience supporting trade compliance responsibilities regarding mergers, acquisitions, and divestiture activity. Familiarity with non-U.S. export control and trade compliance regimes (e.g.
UK, EU, AU) Experience in coordinating with geographically dispersed and cross-functional teams, including non-U.S. based personnel Prior designation as an Empowered Official Current Secret or Top Secret security clearance If you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling.
