Job Family: Business Systems Analysis Travel Required: Up to 10% Clearance Required: None What You Will Do: The Workday Financials Technical Lead serves as the senior technical owner of the Finance System of Record (Workday Financial Management), accountable for platform stability, execution quality, control effectiveness, and delivery outcomes. This role leads the technical capabilities that support Finance and Accounting, translating enterprise financial priorities into secure, scalable, well-governed solutions across configuration, integrations, data, security, reporting, and operations.
Operating within the IT Finance portfolio, this role partners closely with the IT Finance Portfolio Lead, Finance and Accounting leadership, Procurement, Enterprise Data and AI, Security, Architecture, internal delivery teams, and implementation and support partners. The role is recognized as the senior technical authority for Workday Financials and its connected financial data ecosystem.
Platform Ownership & Technical Execution Serve as the day-to-day IT owner for Workday Financial Management, accountable for execution, stability, operational health, and the integrity of the end-to-end financial platform. Maintain deep expertise in Workday Financials capabilities, constraints, configuration patterns, integration frameworks, security concepts, and product roadmap. Assess and recommend adoption, deferral, or avoidance of new functionality based on business value, technical fit, risk, and total lifecycle impact.
Translate Finance and Accounting priorities, defined in partnership with the IT Finance Portfolio Lead and Finance leadership, into executable technical work and lead delivery through assigned technical resources and partners. Own technical delivery for Workday Financials changes and enhancements, including scope alignment, architecture and design decisions, dependency management, estimation, risk mitigation, issue resolution, testing readiness, deployment, and escalation.
Ensure solutions comply with enterprise architecture, IT standards, security requirements, data privacy expectations, financial controls, segregation-of-duties requirements, and change management processes. Financials Configuration & Business Process Enablement Provide technical direction for configuration and lifecycle management across applicable Workday Financial Management capabilities, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Asset Management, Revenue Management, Banking and Settlement, Procurement, Expenses, Projects, and related functions.
Oversee the technical integrity of the Chart of Accounts, worktags, hierarchies, validation rules, organizations, companies, cost centers, business units, projects, and other financial dimensions in partnership with accountable Finance data owners. Guide configuration of business processes, workflow routing, approvals, notifications, validations, and system controls so that solutions are scalable, supportable, auditable, and aligned to approved business requirements.
Apply strong knowledge of accounting and financial operations to identify when a requirement should be solved through Workday configuration, an integration, an enterprise data solution, a connected application, or a business process change. Integrations, Data & Reporting Governance Own the technical health and design coherence of inbound and outbound Workday Financials integrations with internal and external systems, including monitoring, data mapping, transformation, reconciliation, error handling, and coordinated issue resolution.
Ensure data integrity, completeness, timeliness, lineage, and auditability across Workday Financials, integrations, conversions, reporting, and downstream consumers. Lead technical planning and governance for financial and master data conversion, including cleansing, validation, reconciliation, defect resolution, and production readiness. Oversee Workday Financials reporting capabilities, including operational reports, composite reports, dashboards, and financial analytical outputs, while coordinating with Enterprise Data and AI on downstream reporting and enterprise data standards.
Partner with Finance data owners to maintain clear definitions, quality controls, access management, retention expectations, and governance for the Chart of Accounts and other foundational financial data. Operations, Controls & Lifecycle Management Ensure operational readiness and platform stability, including system health monitoring, integration monitoring, incident follow-up, defect triage, root-cause analysis, problem management, and service-level performance.
Coordinate Workday lifecycle activities such as releases, upgrades, environment management, regression testing, security reviews, integration changes, operational handoffs, and production deployment readiness. Establish and maintain a risk-based testing approach covering unit testing, system integration testing, user acceptance testing support, regression testing, control validation, and evidence retention. Support financial period-end, quarter-end, and year-end readiness by ensuring platform, integration, reporting, and support processes are prepared for critical Finance operations.
Maintain clear configuration documentation, architectural and design decisions, integration specifications, data definitions, test evidence, backlog artifacts, support procedures, and delivery records to support governance, SOX, audit, continuity, and knowledge transfer. Leadership & Influence Lead and provide technical direction to Workday Financials administrators, configuration specialists, integration developers, reporting resources, security specialists, and partner teams, including coaching, guidance, standards, and capability development.
Explain Workday Financials capabilities, constraints, architectural choices, and technical tradeoffs clearly to Finance, IT leadership, delivery teams, auditors, vendors, and partners. Lead technical discussions with Workday, implementation partners, managed service providers, banking and payment partners, and other external stakeholders to align approaches, delivery plans, support models, and platform strategy.
Provide regular, factual updates to IT and Finance leadership on platform health, delivery progress, risks, control considerations, dependencies, capacity, and emerging technical opportunities. Act as an escalation point for complex cross-functional issues that span configuration, integrations, security, data, reporting, controls, or connected finance applications.
What You Will Need: Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, plus 10+ years of relevant experience; or 14+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. Deep hands-on expertise in Workday Financial Management, including configuration, business processes, organizational structures, worktags, security concepts, reporting, integrations, and operational considerations.
Proven experience operating as a platform owner, solution lead, architect, or senior technical lead accountable for delivery outcomes in a complex enterprise environment. Strong understanding of financial operations, accounting principles, enterprise financial controls, auditability, and the technology implications of record-to-report, procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, asset, banking, revenue, expense, and project accounting processes.
Experience designing, testing, deploying, and supporting ERP integrations and data interfaces, including data mapping, reconciliation, monitoring, exception handling, and downstream dependencies. Experience leading data conversion, cleansing, validation, and reconciliation activities for financial and master data. Strong understanding of ERP lifecycle management, release processes, environment management, testing, production support, security, segregation of duties, and change controls in a SOX-controlled or highly regulated environment.
Demonstrated ability to assess complex technical and financial-system problems, formulate recommendations, and communicate risks, controls, dependencies, and tradeoffs clearly to technical and executive audiences. Experience coordinating work across Finance, Accounting, Procurement, IT delivery teams, Enterprise Data and AI, integration partners, Security, Architecture, Internal Audit, vendors, and external service providers. Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, documentation, stakeholder-management, and written and verbal communication skills.
What Would Be Nice To Have: Advanced Workday Financial Management certifications or Workday Pro credentials relevant to Financial Accounting, Accounting Center, Record to Report, Procure to Pay, Expenses, Projects, Revenue, Banking, Reporting, Security, or Integrations. Master's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Data Science. Experience with Workday Studio, Core Connectors, Enterprise Interface Builder, APIs, Workday Extend, or other Workday integration and extension frameworks.
Experience with financial reporting, enterprise performance management, consolidation, planning, data warehousing, or visualization platforms such as Workday Adaptive Planning, FCCS, Power BI, Tableau, Fabric, or Databricks. Experience supporting a large-scale ERP implementation, financial transformation, or post-go-live Workday Financials operating model. Demonstrated progression toward senior technical authority roles such as Principal Platform Lead, Lead Architect, Enterprise Applications Lead, or Distinguished Technologist.
The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$216,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
