Overview

The Data Architecture team at GitHub owns the infrastructure and code that power Redis-based caching and Object Storage across GitHub. We operate critical distributed systems where availability, performance, and safe change management are essential. Our work includes improving service health and observability, diagnosing complex production failures, designing resilient deployment and traffic-management patterns, strengthening authentication and access controls, and supporting these capabilities across GitHub.com and GitHub Enterprise Server.

We’re looking for a senior infrastructure and data-focused engineer to join the team. This engineer will lead reliability improvements, evolve monitoring and operational tooling, investigate incidents across service and platform boundaries, and deliver carefully staged changes to production systems. The role requires strong distributed-systems judgment, hands-on operational experience, and the ability to collaborate across infrastructure, security, and product teams.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test and ship high-quality technical solutions that scale across multiple GitHub services.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement innovative solutions.

Provide technical leadership, mentorship, pairing opportunities, and code reviews to encourage the growth of others.

Own and advocate for the health and quality of the systems that the team builds, including participating in on-call and first responder rotations

Write architecture briefs and proposals, carry out code experiments, and build prototypes to learn how we can achieve planetary scale with our systems.

Design and implement APIs to facilitate seamless integration between software components.

Utilize CI/CD tools to set up automated pipelines for continuous integration and delivery.

Become intimately familiar with the systems you build and take pride in writing maintainable code
