Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager, Application Development to lead the design, development, and delivery of enterprise-scale applications, APIs, integrations, and AI-enabled solutions supporting key business capabilities. This role will be responsible for managing high-performing engineering teams while driving modernization initiatives across cloud-native platforms, microservices architectures, and AI-powered solutions.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in AWS cloud technologies, API and integration delivery, microservices architecture, AI-assisted software development, and healthcare technology platforms. This leader will oversee end-to-end solution delivery, provide technical direction to engineering teams, and partner closely with business, architecture, product, and operations stakeholders to build scalable, secure, and innovative solutions.
This role requires a balance of people leadership, technical leadership, strategic planning, and execution excellence to deliver transformational capabilities that improve customer experiences, operational efficiency, and business outcomes. Key Responsibilities Engineering Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams focused on application development, APIs, integrations, and cloud solutions. Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and engineering excellence.
Drive workforce planning, talent development, performance management, and succession planning. Application Delivery & Execution Own end-to-end delivery of enterprise applications, APIs, integrations, and modernization initiatives. Partner with business, product, architecture, and operations teams to deliver solutions aligned with strategic objectives. Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, risks, dependencies, and quality outcomes. Cloud & Microservices Architecture Lead development of cloud-native applications on AWS using modern architecture patterns.
Drive adoption of microservices, event-driven architecture, reusable services, and API-first design principles. Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for scalability, security, availability, and performance. API & Integration Leadership Oversee the design, development, and governance of enterprise APIs and integration platforms. Establish standards for API lifecycle management, security, documentation, and reuse. Deliver scalable integrations across internal, external, and third-party systems.
AI Engineering & Intelligent Automation Drive adoption of AI-assisted software development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, Amazon Q, and similar technologies. Lead development of AI-powered applications, AI agents, and intelligent workflow automation solutions. Promote responsible AI practices, governance, and security within engineering teams. Data & Technology Management Oversee application data architecture leveraging both SQL and NoSQL technologies. Ensure effective implementation of data integration, analytics, and event-driven solutions.
Collaborate with enterprise architecture teams to define technology roadmaps and modernization strategies. Engineering Excellence Champion Agile, DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD, quality engineering, and observability practices. Drive continuous improvement in software delivery, operational efficiency, and customer experience. Ensure compliance with healthcare industry regulations, including HIPAA and CMS requirements. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
10+ years of progressive software engineering and application development experience. 5+ years of technical leadership and people management experience. Proven experience leading distributed engineering teams delivering enterprise-scale software solutions. Strong experience designing and implementing cloud-native applications on AWS. Deep experience with microservices architecture and domain-driven design. Proven experience delivering large-scale API and integration programs. Strong knowledge of REST APIs, API Gateway technologies, OpenAPI/Swagger, and API lifecycle management.
Experience developing applications using Java, Spring Boot, Python, Node.js, or similar modern platforms. Experience building and scaling enterprise integrations and event-driven architectures. Experience working with SQL and NoSQL database technologies. Hands-on experience with AI-assisted coding platforms such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor AI, Amazon Q, or similar tools. Experience implementing AI agents and agentic workflows integrated with enterprise applications. Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies and software engineering best practices.
Pay Range The typical pay range for this role is: $106,605.00 - $260,590.00 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.

Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field with 10+ years in software engineering and 5+ years in technical leadership.
- Proven experience leading distributed teams delivering enterprise-scale AWS cloud-native applications, microservices, APIs, and integrations.
- Hands-on expertise with AI-assisted coding tools, Agile methodologies, SQL/NoSQL databases, and healthcare compliance (HIPAA, CMS).
