The Opportunity Our location in Lake Forest, IL currently has an opportunity for a Software Engineer in Test. This role is on site daily. This is part of Abbott Core Lab Division. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe.

The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers. The Software Engineer in Test (SET) reports into the AlinIQ Product Research and Development organization in Abbott Diagnostics. The SET is responsible for design, development, execution, review and reporting of automated testing for informatics products in compliance with division, corporate, and industry regulation.

This position will help build out and maintain our automation tools and test scripts. The SET will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for product research and development teams in automation practices. The role requires the ability to work in an environment that is fast paced, to work independently, and to communicate and collaborate well as part of a team. What You’ll Work On Design, develop, and execute automated software test plans for server, web and cloud informatics products in collaboration with scrum-based cross-functional design and development teams.

Develop and execute software testing across various containerized and networked components. Design, script, and automate test cases for test driven development and continuous testing. Perform peer testing automation review, definition of criteria for testing, analyzing test results, and presenting results to developers and other stakeholders. Perform test case and test case run analysis to determine adequacy of testing, including coverage, boundary and regression analysis.

Provide testing & allied documentation in conformance with regulatory, security, and privacy standards for all types of testing such as functional, performance and regression. Provide input to systems and applications developers on testing procedures and requirements, schedules, or potential problems. Fault isolation, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis activities during system integration and testing for systems in development. Complete software testing and activities for development user stories within the SDLC process.

Create verification and validation test cases and test reports and review with relevant stakeholders. Required Qualifications BA/BS Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or related disciplines. Minimum 3 years Relevant experience with a master’s degree in a related field. Minimum 4 years Related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 5 years Relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Moderate level of ability to conduct thorough data analytics & implement data-driven solutions.

Moderate level of knowledge with continuous integration & continuous deployment (CI/CD). Moderate knowledge of Agile methodologies. Moderate level of understanding of test methodologies. Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought. Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Preferred Qualifications At least 5 years of work experience in software development or test automation role. Knowledge in SDLC / SLC process and testing methodologies Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript.

Proficiency in SQL, Postgres or other RDBMS technology Experience with BrowserStack/Other Test Automation Tools and Selenium WebDriver preferred. Experience in the management of requirements and test cases (JAMA, JIRA and Atlassian toolset experience preferred). Experience in Agile methodology and Scrum ceremonies. Must have strong interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills, and the ability to independently work as a contributing member in a high-paced and focused team. Familiarity with design of diagnostic medical devices and/or informatics software is a plus.

The base pay for this position is $68,000.00 – $136,000.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
