recognized as one of the best big companies to work for as well as a best place to work for diversity, working mothers, female executives, and scientists THE OPPORTUNITY Abbott is seeking a visionary engineering leader to lead the global software engineering, architecture, cybersecurity, platform engineering, data, AI, DevOps, quality engineering, and user experience organizations responsible for the AlinIQ Workflow Management portfolio, including AlinIQ Analyzer Management System (AMS).
This leader will define and execute the technology strategy for a connected laboratory informatics ecosystem spanning legacy enterprise platforms, client-server applications, hybrid architectures, and cloud-native SaaS solutions while ensuring compliance with global healthcare regulations and cybersecurity requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, with a strong foundation in software architecture, distributed systems, data management, and engineering leadership. · Fifteen or more years of progressively responsible software engineering experience, including architecture, product development, quality engineering, and technology leadership roles supporting complex enterprise software systems.
· Ten or more years of experience leading global engineering organizations across software engineering, architecture, DevOps, cybersecurity, quality engineering, cloud operations, platform engineering, and user experience disciplines. · Five or more years of experience working with onshore and offshore development teams with a history of effective collaboration and outcomes-based partnership.
· Proven track record of delivering enterprise software platforms and managing products through the full lifecycle from concept, development, validation, commercialization, sustainment, and end-of-life planning. · Demonstrated expertise across client-server, service-oriented, API-driven, event-driven, microservices, hybrid cloud, and cloud-native SaaS architectures. · Significant experience leading application modernization initiatives, including migration of legacy systems to modern cloud-native platforms and reduction of technical debt.
· Deep understanding of Agile, Lean, DevOps, DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and software quality engineering best practices. · Experience establishing engineering governance, architecture review boards, development standards, and engineering operational metrics. · Extensive experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, and enterprise data platforms supporting mission-critical applications. · Hands-on knowledge of Azure, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, platform engineering, observability, and Site Reliability Engineering practices.
· Proven expertise implementing secure software development lifecycle practices, threat modeling, vulnerability management, penetration testing, identity management, and cybersecurity controls. · Demonstrated experience protecting PHI, PII, and sensitive healthcare information through security-by-design and privacy-by-design principles. · Strong understanding of HIPAA, GDPR, privacy regulations, auditability, encryption, access controls, and global cybersecurity requirements.
· Experience operating within regulated product development environments supporting design controls, risk management, verification and validation, traceability, configuration management, and audit readiness. · Exceptional executive communication, stakeholder management, financial planning, organizational leadership, and talent development skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS · Master's degree, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering Management, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
· Experience leading software engineering organizations supporting laboratory diagnostics, laboratory informatics, healthcare software, healthcare IT, medical devices, digital health, or healthcare analytics platforms. · Deep understanding of digital transformation in laboratory medicine, including laboratory automation, workflow orchestration, analyzer connectivity, operational analytics, intelligent decision support, and connected diagnostics ecosystems.
· Strong experience in digital healthcare platforms, healthcare informatics, population health, clinical workflow software, and enterprise healthcare ecosystems. Digital Health and Digital Healthcare experience is considered a significant differentiator. · Experience integrating laboratory analyzers, automation systems, Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), middleware solutions, Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR), and enterprise healthcare applications. · Expertise with HL7, FHIR, IHE, REST APIs, and healthcare interoperability frameworks.
· Experience developing Software as a Medical Device (SaMD), clinical decision support tools, and regulated digital health products. · Demonstrated success implementing Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Generative AI, predictive analytics, intelligent automation, and advanced analytics capabilities in enterprise software products. · Experience establishing AI governance frameworks addressing model validation, explainability, bias mitigation, privacy, compliance, and responsible AI practices.
· Strong understanding of user-centered design, usability engineering, accessibility standards, human factors engineering, and digital customer experience design. · Experience supporting highly available enterprise software systems with disaster recovery, business continuity, fault tolerance, and global scalability requirements. · Knowledge of IEC 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, FDA Quality System Regulations, EU MDR, and healthcare cybersecurity guidance.
· Demonstrated success building high-performing global engineering cultures focused on innovation, accountability, customer success, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. The base pay for this position is $149,300.00 – $298,700.00 In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
